CRISTA MCAULLIFFE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
This 61,000 sf new facility constructed on a vacant infill site in an established neighborhood accommodates 600 K-12 students and also includes a day care program. Integrated project delivery was enabled through a CMGC contract where early all-team meetings worked through an aggressive 9-month design window. Despite budget constraints, this project included a geothermal well field and other sustainable features. The construction was completed on schedule in 12-months in time for the start of the school year. Although the client chose not to pursue LEED certification, energy performance, natural daylighting and heathy indoor environments were key project goals. The building’s post-occupancy energy use achieved a 25 KBTU/sf/yr design phase modeled performance. Lou Galletta served as lead designer and project architect for H+L Architecture, as Architect of Record.
